Did I tell you about the book club to which I belong? It's been in existence for about 30 years and 2 of the original members are still active. We usually have about 6 selections a year and meet about every 6 weeks or so starting in September. We meet at different members homes; have volunteer discussion leaders; and eat goodies. Most times our discussions are quite lively with alot of diverse opinions floating around. It is a nice women's evening out and keeps our minds sharp (which is helpful when the years come about, if you know what I mean...)
Some of our most recent selections have been:
East of Eden, John Steinbeck
My Life in France, Julia Tempest
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, Jonathan Safran
Some suggested readings are:
A Prayer for Owen Meany, John Irving
Snow Flower and the Secret Fan, Lisa See
Soul of a Citizen, Living With Conviction in a Cynical Time, Paul Loeb
The Woman in White, Wilkie Collins
The God of Small Things, Arundhati Roy
The Lottery and Other Stories, Shirley Jackson
