Classic Green Bean Casserole

1 can (10 3/4 ounces) Campbell's® Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup  (Regular or 98% Fat Free)

1/2 cup milk

1 teaspoon soy sauce

Dash ground black pepper

4 cups cooked cut green beans

1 1/3 cups French's® French Fried Onions

  • Stir the soup, milk, soy sauce, black pepper, beans and 2/3 cup onions in a 1 1/2-quart casserole.
  • Bake at 350°F. for 25 minutes or until the bean mixture is hot and bubbling.  Stir the bean mixture.  Sprinkle with the remaining onions.
  • Bake for 5 minutes or until the onions are golden brown.
  • For Broccoli Casserole, substitute 4 cups cooked broccoli flowerets for the green beans.
  • For cheese lovers, stir in 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese with soup. Omit the soy sauce. Sprinkle with an additional 1/4 cup Cheddar cheese when adding the remaining onions.
  • To add a festive touch, stir in 1/4 cup chopped red pepper with the soup.
  • To add crunch, add 1/4 cup toasted sliced almonds to the onion topping.
  • For bacon lovers, add 2 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled, to the bean mixture.
  • For Golden Green Bean Cassrole, substitute Campbell's® Condensed Golden Mushroom Soup for the Cream of Mushroom Soup. Omit the soy sauce. Stir in 1/4 cup chopped red pepper with the green beans.

RECIPE TIPS

  • Tip: Use 1 bag (16 to 20 ounces) frozen green beans, 2 packages (9 ounces each) frozen green beans, 2 cans (about 16 ounces each) green beans or about 1 1/2 pounds fresh green beans for this recipe.

Here's one I found with sour cream. Will look for more.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 3/4 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon white sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 pound frozen cut green beans, thawed and drained
  • 2 cups prepared stuffing

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Place green beans in a 9x13 inch glass pan.
  3. Saute onions with butter in a large frying pan over medium heat until translucent. Add flour and stir to coat flour.
  4. Gradually add milk and bring to a boil. Add cheese, sour cream, sugar, and salt. Cook till thickened and cheese is melted. Pour mixture over green beans and top with a layer of stuffing.
  5. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes.

Scalloped Green Beans

A tasty green bean casserole recipe with cheese.

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups cooked and drained green beans (use canned, frozen, or fresh cooked)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard
  • 1/2 cup liquid from drained green beans
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs tossed with 1 tablespoon melted butter

Preparation:

Cook beans; drain and reserve 1/2 cup of cooking liquid (Heat through if using canned beans). Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a saucepan; blend in flour. Add milk slowly and cook until thickened, stirring constantly. Add cheese, mustard, and reserved cooking liquid. Stir until cheese melts. Add salt and pepper. Place alternating layers of green beans and sauce in a greased casserole, then top with buttered crumbs. Bake at 350° for 30 minutes.
Green bean recipe serves 4 to 6.
