I have made the great commitment to convert my family to all natural products.  This conversion is something I expect to take over a year, as I slowly change my habits and product selections as I run out of my current inventory of health, beauty and cleaning supplies.  I mention this here, because through this time I will be learning alot about chemicals and natural products. as well as how these things affect the body, and I expect I will write about them occasionally.

So far I have done some really general reading (in the Green Natural Organic Simple Living group) and have been devising my plan. Basically I plan to use the current products I have and switch them out with natural alternatives when I run out of each item.  So far I am about to run out of baby wash/shampoo and my facial cleanser so I am looking into natural bar soap, which I can use on the kids as well as myself.  I wonder if I can use the same in the baby's hair since I love convenience.  I plan to buy some soap to start with, but I might make my own once I am comfortable with the whole conversion.

If you are wondering what led to this, I developed hives about 2 years ago when I was pregnant and removing individual products from my regime has not done any good so I have to do something else!  The hives have actually gotten worse and more itchy I think.

I have been doing alot of reading in order to write these science blog posts.  The more I read about the environment, chemicals in our food, water and daily use products, and their effects on our kids, I feel I have enough information to decide it is time to make this change for my family.  I wish I would have done this years ago but it seemed too hard.  It still seems like a big project, so I am going at it slow, as I run out of each product.  I seriously am not willing to waste all of these things I already have, but some of them that are unopened will get donated with the food drive to the city mission.

I am happy to hear your coments, accept your help, and review your resources.  I am really rather excited about this whole idea!!  Thank you!

I'll look forward to watching updates to see how you're doing and WHAT products you do end up using.

Ladies, please remember that the chemicals we use in cosmetics, hair dyes, and nail polish are very hard on our bodies!   They will seep inside us.

I use the Canus brand of baby products on my son. The baby wash can also be used as shampoo (tear-free), and the soap, made with goat's milk, is very gentle on the skin,. I'll PM you info about the ingredients and you can decide whether it's natural enough for you.

I also used olive oil soap in the past, an all-natural one made in Greece and not the stuff with added dyes (to make it olive-y green in appearance) and perfumes, but the place I used to buy it from stopped carrying it. I'll have to check out the new natural market that opened near me and see if they can find it.
