No, its not an internal struggle. I buy healthy food (salad stuff, whole grains, chicken, and good healthy stuff) and DF will go right behind me and buy candy, snack cakes, lots of cheese and bacon bits and fatty dressings to smother the salads in, burgers, fries... Oh my! I cook healthy food, he "doesnt like it", DF has never struggled with his weight although he has always been overweight. Actually, that is an understatement. Since toddlerhood, he's been a BIG guy. His dad is guilty of stuffing Chocojells (sp) down his throat since before he should have been taking tablefood. He lived off of fast food growing up. To him, "fat" is normal. His mother and father have very high metabolisms so this life style does not reflect in their size, but DF is 6'3 and 350lbs or more. I am trying to lose weight, as my Dr has officially said that I am "obese" (Ideal weight for my height cuts off at 170, I weigh 190) and I just dont feel healthy anymore. I dont like who I am, I hate looking at myself in the mirror. DFs weight doesnt bother me but I worry about its impact on his overall health and the example he sets for our children.
DS1 is thin... healthy and thin. He is 6y/o and weighs just under 50 lbs, all muscle. His father (not DF) is one of those people who can eat everything including the kitchen sink and LOSE weight.
DS2 (DF's firstborn) is already heavy. Born at 8lb 1oz, he's always been the "linebacker" with broad shoulders...however he's starting to get a potbelly.
I worry for DS3. He is 95% for weight, but he's also 95% for height, he's lean even though at 7 months old he's bigger than most 1y/o.
I work, and cannot be home to cook all meals, and most days that means dinner too. When I work the 3-11 DF makes pizza or burgers and fries... the salads are more cheese and bacon and dressing than lettuce.
What can I do, short of banning the unhealthy from our house? I want my kids to enjoy food (I love to cook, I love to eat) but I want them to also be more health conscious. I want DF to act like he cares that none of his clothes fit anymore. Please, any input would be appreciated.
Oh, almost forgot... I take healthy lunches to work, I offered to make lunch for DF to take with him - his excuse is that there's no way for him to refrigerate or heat at work... so EVERY DAY he makes breakfast and lunch stops at McD's or BK. Seriously... not only is this bad for him, its bad for our bank account....
