From my personal experience, self-induction techniques generally only cause discomfort. Not the induction of the baby. Castor oil is downright dangerous!
I am a firm believer in physical activity making life easier and more enjoyable anyway. So, yes, go for nice long walks. Be intimate with your significant other. I thought pregnant sex was CRAZY good. I mean, I have some stories...
But that is neither here nor there. I think a baby will come when he/she is good and ready. I personally went 2 weeks overdue. My induction date was set for July 30th at 6am. Lily entered this world on July 30th at 2:56am. So, she knew when she wanted to come out. She was a healthy 8lbs 6oz. I would not change a thing.
At the time, even though I was super uncomfortable. Hot. Sticky. Fat. Water logged... I still only tried the natural ways of keeping my body ready for birthing. Yoga. Walks. Sex. And even though I went WAY longer than expected, I would recommend not trying the crazy things to get the baby out because of the inherent dangers of doing so.
