This song by Christopher Cross came about I believe around the 80's which is right around the time my then husband and I opened a surf shop on Guam which quickly turned into more of a sailboard shop. I used to just love to sail and just cruise, no gnarly stuff for me, and I would hear this song play over and over in my head while I sailed. It was so relaxing and whenever I finished sailing I would feel so invigorated!

I remember me and my family, well the girls, and our friends would eat mostly grapes and we used to drink this really really good Vitamin C drink from Japan called Oronamin-C which I cannot find here on Maui. I sure could use some of it now!

Well I don't sailboard anymore or even fool around with a bodyboard or surfboard but I have found something, and I always will find something that draws me to the beach, that I absolutely Love to do and that is collect beach sea glass.

At first I started just to keep busy while my son and a friend body boarded but then it just grew into a passion. I get so excited!!! when I see beach sea glass tumbling around in the surf. So excited that even when my ankles and shins get hit by rocks (it really hurts) I'm ok and keep going.

My first experience collecting beach sea glass was on Guam, Ricks Reef and Agana Boat Basin. It was so plentiful when I first started collecting, by the 80's it seemed to have diminished and I was really saddened. One of the reasons I thought back then was the hotel built right there on the path we took to Rick's.

Well here I am on Maui now and there's beach sea glass here and I'm just loving collecting here! It relaxes me, invigorates me, and grounds me, just like sailboarding used to do only with sailboarding it also tuned my muscles. With beach sea glass collecting I'm really only tuning my legs...oh well it's still awesome!

Soooooo, getting back to the song "Sailing" by Christopher Cross...I find that song being repeated over and over while I'm collecting beach sea glass as well. I get "all caught up in the reverie" and yes, "It's not far back to sanity,
At least it's not for me" rings so true for me too but at the same time, the reverie helps me to come back to sanity grounded and feeling good about life!

Plussss I get to use my creativity afterwards making jewelry, earrings, pendants, all kinds out of the nicer pieces of beach sea glass I find. I spend a lot of time thinking all kinds of ways I can use beach sea glass to make things.

Listen to the song and the words, it's really deep and Christopher Cross is an awesome artistic musician!

Mahalo for stopping by while we keep it Natural on Maui!

I love that song.  I know N*Sync did a cover of it on their first album and that's honestly where I first heard it.  *Yeah  yeah, I was a teeny bopper once*

It's such a great song.

There's a nice video of him on YouTube singing this song and his wearing a light blue and white football jersey.

Yes it's true he does sing so many meaningful songs, I Love em!
