Donation for Christmas Gifts...

So I was contemplating giving donations in family members names instead of getting actual gifts this year... This way, everyone gets the same thing and a charitable cause gets helped...  However, I am not sure how all of the family would react to this.. What do you think about it and how would you go about doing it?

Give cards (you could make them!) with a picture of something that signifies the charity you are donating to in their name.  Inside have a message that says "I know that this cause is close to your heart,  a donation to ______ has been made in your name!"   

I personally think it is a fabulous idea,  considering how so many people are struggling right now,  to make a donation in someone's honor to a worthy cause is a thoughtful and generous thing to do.

I know if I did that my family members would not be so happy with me.  Its a nice gesture of an idea but in reality I know here, many would be disappointed, greatly.
