I have 2 HFA Autistic children and even then they reached physical milestones early/on time.....I am watching a little girl 12 months old....what I see is sooo different! I have no experience with NT children so I am not sure if she is doing ok.
She is 12 months old.....she does not crawl....she cannot pull herself from laying down to sitting....but she can sit unsupported as long as you leave her there...She does not pull up on anything to stand....but she can stand holding on to something for about a minute if you put her there. She rolls all over the place:-) and cognitively she is very alert and fine. Fine motor skills are good. She does not sit on her knees/feet....my girl did this. also I have heard her back make a cracking sound once in awhile when she is picked up or put down...she will shake her head back and forth with her eyes open for no reason at all....(my kids did this)
I do not think it is Autism but something is so not right.....It is hard to tell the parents (although I think they know but are in denial) something is wrong. The father's sister is dying and the whole family is in turmoil. So saying something like "I think there is something wrong with your daughter's gross motor development" seems insensitive now. The parents seem to think she will( "walk before she crawls!)
which I could see IF she was pulling up to sitting and IF she was pulling up on furniture or knees...None of which she is doing.
anyone else heard of this or similar....she is such a good natured girl I would hate for something to be wrong but I have my concerns.
Comments:
I think she sounds fine. I know lots of little girls who didn't walk until 18 months.
if it was just walking that would be fine.....but it is not....there is no crawling....no sitting up independently no pulling up no sitting on knees.....she only rolls....
thanks for your comments:-)
Yea, that sounds behind. But my mom's best friend's son was dying of brain cancer earlier this year, his little girl, Alyssa, was born right at the time was diagnosed, so she spent her whole 1st year in the hospital or here or there, her mom was not able to be as attentive as she should have and she was the same way, very behind in all of these same areas. He passed away when she was about 13 or 14 months old and she caught up in about a month, crawling, walking, talking, all of that. I think it had to do with everything that was going on because she is doing just fine now.
I guess you could just keep an eye on her.
