Randy and I are DYING over this preacher's sermon. We regularly flip through the Christian channels, hoping to find something "juicy"...well, we got more than we bargained for just now.

There's this guy at the Boca Church in Boca Raton, FL.

He's spent the last 20 minutes BLASTING Twilight, Harry Potter, and Halloween, calling them "black", "dark", and "satanic". I shit you not.

Some of his little quips:

"And there's this new thing called Twilight. You may have heard of it. The main character is a guy dressed up in all black with a really pale face and fangs. I thought he was a new type of model, but oh no, this is much more than that." He proceeded to read a few 'racy' quotes from New Moon and Breaking Dawn. "You see? This is teaching our children to want blood. I've read it myself, people are going to start breaking into blood banks! They're going to start drinking blood! They're going to want to become vampires! There's drinks on the market that look like blood! It's dark! It's the occult! It's EVIL!"

And then he started talking about Harry Potter. "You all remember the Harry Potter books that came out a few years back. That's the occult! That's black magic, I don't care what you say! They fly around on broomsticks! He has a mark on his forehead, do I have to say it ANY PLAINER? It's satanic!"

THEN he started talking about Halloween. "How more evil can it get? People practice the occult by SCARING little kids in vampire and goblin costumes!"

Oh, then the penultimate. He HAD to go there.

"And there's so much else that goes into the occult. So many people practice it and you don't even realize it! These things are SURROGATES to the occult! Things like

feminism

homosexuality

transgenderedism

Wizards of Waverly Place

gothic clothes

gothic music

and such other things!"

OH NO HE DIDN'T.

I encourage each and every one of you to write to this bastard and tell him that he's full of shit. HE is the evil one. Not us.

ROFL!! I'm not into the twilight obsession, but this makes me want blood. LOL I don't know where he went for Haloween, but everyone I saw was *gasp* nice to the kids and even giving them treats. I have to disagree with your title though. There are a lot of more extreme examples of how awful religion can be. Now I wanna go be feminist and not do the dishes, spend the time making out with women instead, and wear back while listening to gothic music. I can't afford the transgender stuff and watching Disney channel would just hurt too bad. LOL

He's just another loser soaking up the attention for being an extremist and making the sane people hate his "cause" even more. Do religious people really think that religion is all about hate, disapproval, and whatnot?

I agree that this guy is off, it is quite embarassing.  I'm sure there are many more like him too.  Do you ever seek to study a devout person, who positively represents their religion?  They are harder to find, yet they do exist.

Having said that -

I've noticed that some atheists, far from being indifferent to God or seeking a Path, devote much energy to attacking the credibility of God and of believers.  This fortifies and justifies their position as non-believers.  Yet - the subject is very much on your mind.

You are young, I predict that by mid-life you will be a fervent believer in some kind of spiritual discipline, believing in some kind of Deity.   You remind me of a younger me.  May you fare well in your journey!

I have to leave a comment, especially since I just finished reading all 4 of the books from Twilight.  Um, how far in it did he read?  Just those lines?  Because he would be really steamed to know that the blood sucking vampire insists on MARRIAGE before sex!!!  Yup! 

And Wizards of Waverly Place is cute, dammit!!!  ;-)
