How do I explain death to my two year old?

Just the other day my mom told me that they had just put down our family dog Trout. She had been sick for a while and wasn't getting any better. Tateum and I where up there for a few days last week and I feel so blessed that Tateum was able to spend some time with his beloved friend. After I got off the phone with my mom Tateum looked at me with those big green eyes and took his hand and wiped away one of my tears and said "Mommy sad?" I smiled and I sat down with Tateum and told him that Trout was now up in Heaven and that she wasn't hurting anymore. Of Courses he didn't understand he smiled at me and pointed to the photo of him and her that I have...That's now my profile pic (on my myspace and facebook) and asked.."Can we go see Trout?" I cried harder...How do I explain to him that she is no longer with us? How do I make him understand? I'm just dreading the day when we go to visit my parents again and she's not there and he goes looking for her. The first thing he does when we go up there is look for Trout and her ball so they can play fetch. I will miss her so much she was more then a dog she was a big part of our family and I'm so happy that Tateum got to spend the time with her that he did.

First of all I am so sorry about your loss. I think just tell him pretty much what you already have. Trout was very sick and now she is with God and that God is going to take care of her from now on. You might want to also tell him he can talk to her whenever and that she is always looking over him. {{{HUGS}}}
