As you probably know, I work in a hotel, and we get a lot of interesting stories coming across our desk from time to time.   When a guest checks in (since we are a NICE hotel, not a motel6 or whatever) we are supposed to ask the purpose of their stay, whether it is leisure or company...whatever.  A few days ago, I had a woman come in and ask how much it would be to stay a week.  Well, our nightly rates run about $100/night... but I could see it in her eyes how badly she needed this, so I gave her a $40 rate for the first night, then I would double-check with my manager that it was OK to give her that rate until next week.  After getting her address and seeing that she lived only 30 minutes from here (give or take) I asked (jokingly) if she just needed a break from the family... she got this LOOK on her face and said that she would rather not talk about it.  I completely understand that.  What gets me, is she lives in Laurens, my hotel is in Simpsonville, and she works in Clinton... for those not familiar with SC, that is Simpsonville to Laurens- 30 min or so... Clinton is 30 min the OTHER way... so she's going to stay to where she's going to drive over an hour to get to work?  There are hotels close to her job...??  Oh well.  I just figured I wouldnt let my curiousity get the best of me, and let it go.

Today, there are numerous calls asking to be transfered to her room... Of course there's no answer (I last saw her about 3, 3 1/2 hours ago at breakfast) Finally, after the caller(s) kept calling back every minute or two, I sternly said "When I transfer you, and no one picks up the call in that room, its probably because she isn't in there.  I would be more than happy to take a message from you"  Thinking it was maybe a jealous husband or stalker or whatever.  Nope.. both callers are policemen from her hometown area.  I know, they gave the number and I was like "Laurens County??"  Yeah.  Two officers are calling b/c they want to make sure she's ok.  I know she didnt go to work today, she told me she was taking a day off, but the PD said that her husband is acting "funny" (she's having "marital issues" according to the police) and they are worried about her.  She has a case against her husband.

Now, I'm worried about her.  Someone who I've only spoken with for a few minutes in passing, and I'm really worried for her safety.

Please pray that everything turns out OK for this woman.
