My 11 year old daughter came home from school yesterday to tell me that her french teacher (who only teaches her class for 40 minutes each day),  made her empty out the classroom trash can in search of compostable material.

Whhaaatttttt?

Apparently this woman saw my daughter toss a paper towel into the garbage can and went on  a tirade about how now that the school had green bins for composting that most of the stuff in the trash can could be in the green bin.  She then asked for a volunteer to take out all of the compostable material and put it in the green bin.  When no one was eager to dig through the trash, she told my daughter to do it.  And SHE DID!!!!!!!!

I am beside myself.  Forget about the humiliation, the demeaning nature of this task, with all her peers watching, and the fact that the teacher checked the can to make sure she didnt miss anything.  Forget that part.  Hello H1N1, flu, cold virus and other bacteria that pose health risks.

What was this woman thinking?  She is a power monger and a mean teacher, I've heard stories about her for years, but this tops the cake.  I called the school today and spoke to her and she didnt apologize.  The school principal did, however.

I still cannot get over this.  Am I overreacting?

That is one teacher on a power trip for sure.  I don't think you are overreacting at all.   I wouldn't want my kids hands in the trash.  I'm hoping she allowed her to go wash her hands right away.

Overreacting?  NO....the last place a kids hands should be is in the trash.  Did she at least give her rubber gloves to wear?  Thats just way out of line.

The teacher did let her put on one short plastic glove, but it was a large, tall can so she had to lean into it to reach all the garbage.

Some people just shouldnt be teachers!!!thanks for your comments ladies.
