Soy Candles Vs. Paraffin Candles, What Is The Difference?
Paraffin candles have been used popularly for hundreds of years. You can buy paraffin candles just about anywhere. They are very affordable and come in a large variety of scents, but is the lower price tag and convenience worth the risk? Paraffin candles contain petroleum by product that has actually been show to be toxic and carcinogenic. In fact, paraffin candles are believed to be as dangerous when burned in your home as second hand tobacco smoke. Many people would never even think about smoking in their home yet the burn paraffin candles not knowing that they are creating an equally toxic environment. Paraffin candles may also leave black soot around your home and leave an unpleasant smoky smell when they are blown out. Some paraffin candles may still even use lead wicks!
Soy candles are becoming more and more popular due to the increased awareness of the dangers and risks associated with paraffin candles. People with environmental concerns have also turned to soy candles as a safer alternative. Soy candles are clean and even burning, sustainable and renewable and have very long burn times. You can still enjoy strong fragrances and attractive colors and designs with soy candles. You may even pay less with soy candles than you would for many popular brands of paraffin candles. When choosing a candle company to purchase from you want to pay attention to where they get their soy beans and wax from. Purchasing soy candles from a company who purchases their supplies and makes their wax in the US is advisable as you will also be helping to support local farmers and will likely get a higher quality candle. Pay attention to their wax as well as many candle makers use soy blends which may still contain paraffin. 100% natural soy wax is the safest way to go. Not all soy candles are created equal just like any other type of candle so you may have to try a few different brands until you find the one you like the best.
