For Sunday thru Tuesday this week (Nov. 15-17) I have been in the hospital with a Kidney Infection. This is how it went down: Saturday I decided to clean my house TOP to BOTTOM. I really over did it. I swept, mopped, washed laundry, dried laundry, and put the babies laundry away. I did WAY too Much!  That evening I went to bed early because I was pooped. I woke up every hour on the hour in pain and having to pee. I took tylenol before bed and again at 3 a.m. I didn't know that I had fever. I woke up at one point with my entire body covered in sweat! YUCK! I kinda hoped that my water had broken. (It hadn't  ) Well the next morning I got up and got my shower (in pain the whole time) I really didn't feel well. I got out of the tub and laid in the recliner for a while with a blanket on me. I really felt like crap. I took my temp in my mouth and it said 99.5. I decided to take it under my arm since they say its more accurate. It was 100.5! I decided to call the on call doctor. She called me back and I explained the issues. She told me to go to the Labor and Delivery to get checked out.

Once I got there this is what went down: I was immediately strapped into the monitors and was given a foley to get a sterile urine sample for testing. Mind you I DID NOT APPROVE!  I gave in only because I knew there was no other way to get it. So, there I was waiting with my legs spread as far apart as they can be in a hospital bed awaiting the dreaded foley catheter! THAT SHIT HURTS!!!! Just so you know! OK now that was done, I'm waiting for the nurse to come in to do my IV. Well, she comes in and says I have to do labs too! OK, Fine. Well she starts to poke me on the top of my right hand! and I started gaging and almost threw up because it hurt so bad! She decides to  just get the iv in and get it started and asked the other nurse on the floor to come and draw the labs.  That didn't hurt nearly as bad. They called the doctor and gave her a report on everything and she decided to send me upstairs to be put on antibiotics and to be observed.

So I'm upstairs and they feed me and get me into a more comfortable bed and everything goes pretty smooth. Ah some rest! My hand is killing me where they started the IV. I didn't say anything though. I didn't want to get poked a second time! I started the antibiotics thru the IV and the fluids. I peed more than I have peed the entire time I've been pregnant! WOW! That evening the nurse came in to flush my IV and I nearly jumped out of the bed! She said Woah and took it out. She then proceeded to poke me 4 times and BLEW every vein she tried. She called for the charge nurse to come and try. I told her she had ONE chance. She blew it! Another nurse came. I told her to go call the doctor to see if I could take this antibiotic by mouth. The nurses avoided me until the doctor called back. The tech came in and advised me that the doctor really wanted me to get the fluids and IV antibiotic and that they called the IV team. My nurse finally came in and she looked like she had been crying. I know I was. I was SOOOOO tired of being jabbed in the arm. I was crying and shaking so bad that I'm pretty sure she left my room crying. I wasn't mean to her though. I know she didn't want to hurt me. I couldn't believe I had let them poke me 7 times! The IV team finally showed up with a neat little machine that is similar to an ultrasound and a vile of Lidocain!  The 7th attempt was the simplest one I have ever had done! This morning after all of the antibiotic was delivered my IV had begun to hurt. I called the nurse in to check it. My whole arm had swollen up and the nurse that came in had to remove it... I WAS SCARED!!! I didn't want another one!!!!!  Well my nurse came in and she said she spoke with my doc and they said I wouldn't have to get another one. YAY!!!! I WAS SO HAPPY!  The doctor came and told me that I could go home with more antibiotics and to take it easy. I'm not on bed rest and I can do whatever I need to do.

I am so happy to be home! I hope the rest of this week goes by and goes by QUICK! I can't wait to have this baby!

so sorry that you had that happen to you. When I was in labor with my son they kept blowing my veins also. My mom who is a nurse asked them if they need to be shown how to put a iv in.
