LIFE IN THE MOM LANE

...it CAN make you lose your mind...

The journal prompt for today asks about digital cameras vs. old fashioned film.  Timing couldn't be better on this one.

I haven't seen film in so many years I may have forgotten what it looks like!  But that has also lead me to a problem.

One year, we had a PC crash and it had our digital pictures.  The hubster is my in-house Computer Geek and was able to recover the files (PHEW!)

He vowed never to let it happen again so he bought an external media storage device, hooked us up and showed me how to use it and store everything there.  So if the stupid PC crashes again, our pictures would be safe.

He didn't count on the media storage unit crashing.

He didn't count on the fact that he can't recover the pictures.

The hard drive is out with a data recovery company to see what they can do but if it's nothing.........every single photograph taken in the last 8 years (since the birth of our only child) will be gone. Completely gone...

I try not to think of it.

And now - he has a plan to back up the data (whenever we use the storage device again) at least monthly.

That is a nightmare! I know that my husband has a backup system in place. It's a redundant system 5 times over so we should be alright. We've printed off some as well although nowhere near all.

I really hope he can retrieve the pictures.

I've been looking at old photo albums of myself at Chihiro's age and there are fewer than 40 pictures for an entire year. What did we do? Were there any special moments outside of the ones captured on film? Many of the pictures are blurred or badly taken. I love digital for what it allows us to do - take many, many pictures throughout our lives.
