This year while trick-or-treating one of the neighbors had out two telescopes. They let each kid see Jupiter and it's four moons as well as our moon up close. This was a pleasant surprise for the adults and the children.
and
On the way home the children started chattering about how that was one of the best parts of the night. The conversation morphed into a conversation about life outside of Earth.
Children have such an open mind. They are able to accept what they can't see. They couldn't imagine the entire Universe without other life. There must be more.
This is an age old debate. Is there life in the Universe? This isn't a legitimate question to me. The question should be: WHEN will we discover other lifeforms?
God is way bigger than the box we try to give him. He is even bigger (dare I say it) than the Bible. If he can create the Universe then why not other life? The Bible doesn't talk about it but it also doesn't talk about other galaxies and they exist.
I know there are many faiths on cafemom. Faith or no faith, I think if you really open your mind to the possibilities you will soon find that it is almost more disappointing to think there isn't anything more here than us. That would be like the whole earth only having one ant pile.
Here are a few pictures of life on Earth.

I have always been of this opinion. How can I be so arrogant to think that Earth is the only planet in the UNIVERSE that can support life. It might not be life as we think of it, but it must be there.
I just love C.S. Lewis and the Narnia series because it really gets to the heart of this idea.
I have always been of the opinion that there certainly is other life out in the universe, like the kids it just doesn't seem to make sense that we are the ONLY planet with life forms in the ENTIRE and VAST uiniverse. . My skepticism is whether or not that alternate life has "visited" us.
What a cool "extra" for Halloween night! If I were a kid in that neighborhood, that would have been the highlight for me. Heck, if I had my toddler out in that area, we BOTH would have thought that was the highlight.
My husband agrees with the idea that we're arrogant and foolish to think this is the only planet capable of supporting life.
I tend to go with the idea that this possibly being the only planet that supports life show the greatness of G*D . . . so many possibilities and yet only one is just right.
We have had some truly facinating discussions as a result.
I agree...what a fun night for everyone.
I think there's life out there. Why not? Why couldn't there be? The universe is so vast there's gotta be some other kind of life.
That is an awesome thing to do for trick or treaters! OMG I LOVE this neighbor of yours!!!!
As for life-forms.. I do believe they are out there. The Bible doesn't talk about alot of things that exist.
What a cool way to have even more fun on Halloween!
I completely agree with you, Becca. I have always thought we can't possibly be the only ones.
I'm with ya, Kristi. My bet is they've visited us many times...
I've always been of the belief that it is so silly to think that there isn't other life out there in the universe. I'm with ya.
That is a really cool Halloween idea!

Very cool, thanks. Idk if there is life on other planets but I wouldn't be surprised either way. It's very true God doesn't mention everything he has made so why not? lol
