Jossalyn is 11 months old today. I thought in the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would make a list of the things I have learned in the past 11 months, and the things I am thankful for. So, without further ado...(wtf does ado mean?!)
Things I Have Learned
- Children will always pee right after you take off the dirty diaper.
- Children will always wait to poop in a fresh diaper.
- As soon as you put one pant leg on one leg, children will always proceed to pull their leg out of said pant leg when you go to put the other pant leg on.
- How selfless I really am.
- How fast time really flies.
- How to juggle a whole plate of food, a fork, a phone, a bottle, and a squirming child without dropping any of them.
- PATIENCE
- PATIENCE
- PATIENCE
- PATIENCE
- And for good measure...PATIENCE
- How to function on three hours' sleep
- What "onesies", "CIO", "Snugli", "AP parenting", "binky", and "lovies" are.
- How to maintain some semblance of a relationship with my husband while being a mom at the same time.
- The Cat in the Hat--Every. Single. Word. All. Sixty. Pages.
- How to put on makeup, get dressed, and flat iron my hair, all while feeding my child and getting her dressed as well.
- To appreciate every little smile, blade of grass, and every day that we don't deal with spitup.
- How to properly treat a spitup stained outfit.
- How to change a dirty diaper in under 30 seconds flat.
- How to keep my mouth shut when needed.
- How to speak up when needed.
- How to make a baby laugh until they cry.
- When giving a child a bath, they will always wait to pee when you've taken off their diaper and you're transporting them to the bathtub.
- How to appreciate my elders.
- How to say thank you.
- How to say no.
- How to stand up for what I believe in, even if my beliefs are the most unpopular in the room.
- What true love really is.
- Which people are poisonous to my life and which people are essential.
- Did I mention patience?
Things I Am Thankful For
- My parents, for doing "it" 21 years ago in order to make me
- My grandparents, for raising my parents to be good people despite their chronic flareups of uncoolness (hehehehehehe)
- My great-grandmas, for raising two dynasties of children and both making it past 90
- My husband Randy, for giving me a chance even though I'm hopelessly idiotic and weird
- Every new day, because for awhile there, I wasn't sure I would see another new day
- Charles Darwin, because let's face it, it took major balls to stand up to centuries of creationism and say "Um, let's look at this logically, shall we?"
- Brad Pitt and his fine Old-Enough-to-be-my-Father self
- Spongebob Squarepants-I finally know who lives in a pineapple under the sea
- Formula-Goodness gracious, so many babies would have starved without it
- My daughter Jossalyn, for giving me a reason to live, for being there for me when nobody else was, for being my confidante, my partner in crime, my best friend, my greatest treasure, my biggest accomplishment, my gift to mankind, my silly little monkey, and my little girl.
