Do you own a group that is completely private?
You might want to consider having an open forum that gives a preview of what your group is like, and keep it active.
Just yesterday, CafeMom launched the new Scout program. Scouts are responsible for finding interesting posts in groups and in the answers section pertaining to her specific category. She then "scouts" the post. When a post is scouted, it will show up under it's category in the new tabs at the top of our pages (Parenting, Life & Home).
The catch? We can't scout any posts that are in private groups. Why? Because the content has to be viewable by everyone. If someone saw a post I scouted, thought it looked interesting, and went to click on it, it would really be uncool if they got slammed with a "You must be a member of this group to do that" message.
The solution? Group owners keep all or some of their forums open, and keep regular activity moving! That way there is pleanty of content for the scouts to go through, and you get your groups "out there" in more places!
The categories that scouts are currently working in are:
Baby
Beauty & Style
Big Kid
Entertainment
Food & Party
Healthy Living
Home & Garden
Pregnancy
and
Toddler
If you have a group that posts about ANY of these categories, I'd encourage you to think about opening a forum so we can scout it!

Comments:
idk i think if a group is completely private, it might be by invite only, and may not want to be advertised :P
Obviously, if they WANT people to apply, then they should have some part of their group not private lol
LOL, well obviously, a group that wanted to remain private would be exempt from this, as they don't want any sort of group promotion.
I'm talking about group owners who have no content viewable to the public, who DO want their group promoted.
thanks!! but my group will be staying private. i have a lot i would love to share with all of cafemom. however my members security and privacy are more important to me than anything. my groups are like close knit families.
Just a thought: If you change a private group to public, you may want to post an announcement to your group members letting them know you are doing this. I would not post pics of my kids in a public group, for example.
