I have spent the largest part of my life working retail or in restaurants. I have been everything from dish boy (or girl as case may be) to being the GM over 2 restaurants and stock boy to store manager. I am a very smart person. I have plenty of schooling under my belt. I am able to have intelligent debates on many social and political subjects. Chances are my IQ is higher than average. And better than all the education that I have gained, all the skills I have, I have manners!

Simple common manners. Yes ma'am, thank you, please, you're welcome are common in my vocabulary. Heck, it is in my 8 yo's daily vocab. So what the hell is your problem?? Just because I have this low ranking job you think you are better than me, that I am a total moron? I can have a "better" job easily, but I like what I do. It is fun, I enjoy going to work and most of the people I work with I can call a friend and really mean it. Can you say that?

Did you know that you don't have to tell us how much things are when I am ringing you up? Yes, I know that item is on sale! No, when the sign says toys are on sale it means toys, not dresses, not DVD's, not books, not jammies. JUST TOYS!!

And I am a human worthy of being treated as such. Is it so freaking hard to put your damn card or money in my hand, not the counter. You have even dodged my hand to do so. How would you like us to treat you like you treat us?

We have families too, we have other places we want to be also.I get it that you are trying to save a buck, we all are. But it is not my fault that the thing you want is not on sale, or that it sold out just like I  told you 2 weeks ago that it would. We all have crazy stress and issues in this most wonderful time of the year. In my case, as you are yelling at me, calling me every name you can think of, all I can think of is the birth and death of my son who would be 10 years old on the 17th. So excuse me if I have no sympathy that you can't find what ever it is you think your child will die without because my child actually did die! Ever think that somebody else might be having a harder time than you?

If we could all just give each other a little common courtesy, mind our manners and remember the simplest rule in life (Treat others how you want to be treated) everything would go just so much better for us all. I challenge each and everyone of you to use your manners, open a door for somebody else, look people in the eye and say "thank you" like you really mean it. Let that other car out (or in), slow down just a little. Instead of scoffing at that mom with the screaming child ask if you could possibly help her with something, or maybe just make faces and talk to the child.

You don't have to do anything big to change the world, just the smallest things can make the biggest changes. Try it, I dare you. I double dog dare you!
