This will be a rather Ranty journal, since my frustration is through the roof!
I have a friend who is terminal. She is a member of my theater company in Atlanta, and she will be leaving behind 2 small children. In honor of her, we decided to do a series of photos featuring our performers in Pink Ribbons. We plan to sell the images and raise money for the Breast Cancer foundation of Jessica's choice. However, she wants the money raised to go to the children of Non - surviving Breast Cancer victims. We have looked EVERYWHERE and cannot find any such charity. Does anyone know of a group for this? At this point, we are considering starting our own foundation.
I'm feeling frustration because I have approached this topic on my Breast Cancer Support Groups. A lot of folks " don't want to focus on the negative" . But it's a reality! She's a single mom of 2 young children. She was diagnosed at 28 years old with Stage 4 Breast Cancer. She's dying, and she's NOT the only one.
Jessica agreed to do the photo shoot, and is sharing her story because she wants people to know that the cancer is still taking lives. She was told that she couldn't possibly have Breast Cancer, at 28, she was "too young" When they finally diagnosed her, she wasn't that freaked out. She has had seen so much about survivors, pink ribbons, and so on, it had given her a false since of hope. She was in shock when they told her it was already in stage 4, and too late.
While it's great to remain positive, and really promote the charities that fund cancer research, the media does give folks a false sense of security. There isn't a cure yet. but you never hear about the women who are dying or the devistating effects this death has on their families or children. They desperately need support too.
If anyone knows of a foundation that gives to the families who have lost a mom to breast cancer, please hook me up.
Thanks,
Pinky

To me there are three kinds of people when it comes to handling Life~N~Death situations like Cancer.
Those who try to keep everything serious
Those who keep everything spiritual
Those who try to keep everything in high spirits and joke and laugh
When I worked as a nurse, I saw how bad the last days were when things were too serious. Missed moments.
I will keep my ears open if I hear of any groups or sites.
