According to today's cafemom poll, a whopping 43% of you "never have the time to exercise".
I don't get it. You don't have the time, or you don't make it a priority?
I work two part time jobs. I go to college, on campus, full time. When I'm not at either of those locations, I'm home alone with my 3 year old and 1 year old, as DH is off to work. I have no local family, and my boys don't go to daycare or a sitter. I don't have a gym membership either. Yet I find the time to work out, almost every single day. This year, I ran 5-5ks, 2 half marathons, and 2 full marathons. And did all the training to go with it.
I'm not saying everyone has to jump off the couch and marathon train, but I don't get, in our society rampant with obesity and health problems due to the lack of physical activity, people can't find the time to exercise. A half an hour less of sleep, or computer time. Ten minutes here, or ten minutes there. Heck, that laundry pile isn't going to explode if it doesn't get folded tonight. Yet every day you ignore the health of your body, minutes and years are ticking away from your life. So again, I just don't get how we as moms, can't take better care of ourselves, and set better examples for our children on how important it is to lead a healthy lifestyle
That's my rant for the day. Sorry if it makes me seem judgemental. I just don't understand the excuses...

As someone who exercises daily (just finished Shaun T's Insanity and then started it over again!) and who is very fit, this still seems pretty harsh to me, sorry.
Exercise has completely changed my body and makes me feel good. I make time for it almost every day. That said, with a VERY hectic life and a special needs child, so many days it is a huge struggle to find the time. I can totally understand that many other people experience that same time crunch.
As important as exercise is to me I try not to judge others.
Hey Betsy858, good for you for making a change in your lifestyle! That's awesome! You are absolutely right about moms putting ourselves last, but it's a shame they don't realize that in the end, it's an incredible disservice to their family! A healthy mom is a HAPPY mom!
I respect your comment and view aurorabunny. I also try not to judge, as I simply said, I just don't understand. Because I don't. I realzie there are always special exceptions. But as someone who is pursuing a career in the field of health/exercise/sports science, I promise you that I see excuse after excuse after excuse on a daily basis, and the majority of the problem in our society boils down to that exactly. Excuses. It is my hope that moms (and everyone in general) could realize how important exercise really is, in every aspect of their lives.
Heather I agree with you 100% this was not harsh it is the #1 excuse people make to not exercise. Its just laziness. I have a crazy hectic life and I find the time.
You were not harsh. This is a big issue. People somedays are way too busy. Somedays you can not exercise but even walking ten minutes fast around the house is better then nothing. Its really a habit. Some people do make excuses or even feeling guilty for exercising . The op was just rsponding to a post or survey. She is saying nothing judgemental. tHIS IS WHY PEOPLEwho LIKE IN pARIS fRANCE ARE ALL SKINNY BECAUSE THEY WALK EVERY WHERE. Oh...is it almost 11:00-time for my walk lol.
I'm not saying that people don't make a lot of excuses, I just think that a lot of goes much deeper than "laziness".
amen sister!!!! IMO people have no right to complain about thier weight when they are not taking care of themselves unless of course there is a medical reason or the complaining is motivating them to make changes in thier lives....
I exercise when I can... usually first thing in the morning, I do some yoga. I don't run as much as I did before kids because my already messed up knees got even more messed up with pregnancies. However, I don't complain about my weight, and I'm technically overweight. I also don't go to school, don't work, just stay at home with my kids... who I carry around the house while I clean or vacuum, run up and down the stairs with, dance to some upbeat music with, scrub my kitchen floor... I do *plenty* of heart-rate raising activities; I don't NEED to go out for a 7 mile run every day to stay healthy. Maybe YOU do to stay skinny, but skinny doesn't matter to me. Healthy does.
Hmmm. What about those of us who just don't want to? I am far from lazy. I simply do not have a desire to exercise like a crazy woman; never have. I feel that my activity level around the house and with my two year old is enough.
That said I do set aside "me time". The activities I prefer to do in my spare time is read an informative book, garden or meditate.

I had therapy because I did not take care of myself as I should have. I learned that if a mom does not put her needs before her kids the children will suffer a lot more that way. Is like in the airlplane they tell you to put your mask on first if needed . They have to say that because woman especially will give the oxygen mask to the kids first. That is wrong. I have a friend who is over weight. I walk 5 miles every day. I asked her if she wanted to walk az little with me. Not the entire time I do. But jyust start for ten minutes. Nope she says she has no time. My golly shedoes and I know it. People are lazy in general. For me if I do not exercise I am not as happy or productive. I find I get more done when I exercise.
