Some background, I am a soon to be graduating MA student so I am at my externing portion of my student status. I chose to extern at a imaging center where they do X-rays, sonograms, MRI's, mammograms, CT scans, bone density, and more. It is an awesome opportunity for me so I took it when they offered.
This was my first week of work and it wasn't half bad. The second day I came into work I kept hearing all these weird sounds. It was a constant beeping coming from the MRI machine. Well come to find out that the cooling system was over heated and we had to have it fixed. Which is fine we just cleared the schedule for the techs and had it fixed.
I was doing some paperwork when one of the techs approached me and asked if I am claustrophobic. Well no, but what a strange thing to ask. He took me back to the machine and asked if they could test me to see if the machine was working correctly. Well ok, never had one before.
I am not claustrophobic but I was in there pretty darn close to where it made me feel slightly uncomfortable. And the buzzing was loud but I was listening to my country music on special earphones. And I took a nap so I wasn't getting nervous. When they were done they showed me my anatomy and told me everything looks good. So I told them that the only place they would find a cyst was my ovaries. They both looked at each other and quickly looked at the ovaries. TADA! It was then confirmed by MRI that I do have PCOS. My left ovary was lit up like a Christmas light.
Now that I know what it is I am sort of relieved but at the same time not happy about it. Because I know that cyst is going to explode soon and that is the reason I have so many problems. But now that I know what it is I can get it treated quickly. Can't believe it took me going to college for the medical field to figure this out. And accidentally finding it while testing the MRI machine.
