Hey cafemamas!
Im looking for any moms in the great state of Virginia who homeschool their children.
I have a 2nd grader who will be 8 in Jan. and I am very highly considering NOT returning her to public school after the Christmas break...we have had SO many issues with her school and her teacher, issues with violence against my sweet little girl and a rude offensive teacher...she has asked me on more than 1 occasion to either send her to a private church school or to homeschool her, she hates going to school all of a sudden THAT much :(
Anyways, ive been trying to do all the research that I can on the "rules" of homeschooling in Va. and I know that ill have to sign an intent to home education form (or whatever its called, the official name escapes me) and turn it in to the superintendant, but does this form need to be notorized? and what else is there that I need to do so as when I pull her out of school I wont get any grief for it?
Also, what are the yearly requirements that ill need to make sure that we do? Like, is there a standardized test of some sort that she will need to take each year to show her progress with our studies? I already know that for now im going to start out using the web based time4learning program as our curriculum and supplement it with other programs for math (most likely saxon) and the sciences...im also very interested in teaching her how to do lapbooks, I think its a neat concept that she would enjoy doing.
Any other info and advice is GREATLY appreciated!
