Well, my husband has officially done it...yup...he has attained the pinnacle of awesome. I have been pining away over a $90 copy of Larousse Gastronomique for YEARS and the man got it for my birthday. :)

I started a Holiday cookie exchange at work and it looks like I will be making English tea cookies and either trail mix cookies, or a nice traditional gingerbread. We shall see...

Hot Buttered Apple Cider

1.5 cont. Simply Apple (I enjoy this brand immensely)

1tbsp ginger, cloves, nutmeg

3 sticks cinnamon

1/3 cup cranberry/pomegranate juice (no sugar added)

2 tbsp maple syrup (real syrup, not the knockoff plastic jug type)

splash of vanilla extract

1 tsp butter per cup (unsalted, sweet cream)

Throw together all ingredients except for the vanilla and butter into a crock pot and let it do its thing for about 5 hours.  Prior to serving, add a splash of vanilla and the tsp of butter to the bottom of the mugs and stir while pouring the hot cider. I like using a whisk because it creates a delicate froth on top of the mix that is delicious! (I can only assume this recipe would be delicious with a splash of vanilla or spiced rum as well...I will have to give it a try once this whole pregnancy business is done!)
