*Trip to the E.R. turns out to be an overnight stay...:( (with pics)

*My son has been fighting this cough for a couple weeks. I initially took him to a ready care cuz it was a Saturday night and he was having a bad cough and wheezing. The doctor there diagnosed him with an upper respiratory infection and gave him azythromycin. He took it for the 5 days and felt better for about a day of 2. Then his cough started to get worse and worse. I had 2 run 2 the store yesterday so I dropped Devin off 2 my moms so i didnt have 2 take him 2 the germy store. lol. I get home and my mom says he is having trouble breathing. I called his doctor and didnt get an answer. So i took him to the hospital. They have a seperate E.R. for pediatrics. So there we were. He had chest x-rays and blood work done. Not pneumonia. They gave him a breathing treatment. Helped the wheezing a little....but the retractions in his chest were still real bad. So they decided after us being in the E.R. for 7 hours that they were going to keep us overnight. They were on the fence whether it was asthma or bronchiolitis.  Since I smoke (not around him..) and he had the wheezing...they said it could be asthma. But since he had the coughing and runny nose he had the symptoms of bronchiolitis. They sent us home this afternoon after giving him numerous breathing treatments and being on an IV and having oral and intraveinious(sp) steroids.  He has an albuteral inhaler and a flovent inhaler. :( They also gave us a asthma action plan with his green yellow and red zones and what has 2 happen if he falls into one of those catagories. I just thought I would share. Ohh. and for the record. My 2010 resolution is to quit smoking. I am hoping to be smoke free going into the new year. I know it will be hard but with the support from family and friends....not to mention I look at the reason I am quitting in his big brown beautiful eyes everyday...not only am I doing this for myself but I am doing it for him!
