It's that time again! The Great Backyard Birdcount is coming up in two weeks!!
February 12th-15th
(That means now is a perfect time to pencil in some plans to find birds one of those days)
Observing birds and sending in your data is really easy, free, and a nice project for kids (or adults).
Cornell University's citizen science project is among the most popular community projects in the USA. Last year 94,165 checklists were submitted, recording the distribution of over 11 million individual birds!! These scientists (and the birds) rely on the public to collect this data. I wrote about it last year and submitted data last year. Birdwatching is one of my few hobbies, and I mention it often on my blog It's not Just the Science.
Just like last year, my profile will be all birds in celebration of the GBBC this February! Come take a look and let me know what you think :)

Okay, can you send me a calendar reminder for this! LOL! It sounds like fun. I wonder if the birds will avoid my yard this year. A lot of things "froze" solid and it looks pretty bad. We have a lot of work to do this spring! Thanks for the info.
i will remind you!
I am going to try to take the girls on a long walk - our first of the year - and find use my bird book I got for Christmas.

Shoot! That's the weekend right after we move, so I'm going to be too busy. I've always thought about doing this, and I think that it would be a fantastic family tradition to start.
