Every once in a while I get something on my mind and feel compelled to share. I was waiting for my friend to come over today and I told her "Lets see how fast I can clean my house". We all do this. Company is coming and we scramble around as fast as we can stuffing stuff in a closet so that we can pretend that our house is really that clean. Guess What... It's NOT!
I'm not putting pictures of my bedrooms but you get the idea. You might wonder why I'm advertising that my house is dirty I decided to dispense with pretence and take some pictures because my house isn't clean. My house is lived in. There are Christmas lights on the counter that are waiting to be hung, there are ornaments waiting for pictures to be put in before being given to DD's god parents, there is a stack of bills and magazines on both the baker's rack and the counter, and there is a half-eaten "gingerbread" house on my sewing table.
I think that if we were all honest we'd probably have to admit that this is pretty much what our houses look like on a daily basis. I think that it is damaging to our Suzie-home-maker egos to admit that we aren't the prefect housekeeper. I'm not. Don't bother telling me to clean my house, it's not that dirty, and yours probably looks just as bad.

Hey, it looks like my house. Very much lived in. I can't stand those houses that look as though they belong in a magazine and you can't sit on the couches or walk on the floor. I have a 2yo and a 5yo and another little one on the way...I am too tired by the end of the day to really clean up. I pick-up the obvious dirty clothes and shoes and toys, but that's about it. Thanks for sharing...it's nice to know I am not the only one with a "lived in" house.
I posted this because We all flip out and scamper around trying to impress others with our "clean" house because it really matters.
I used to see these posts all the time where someone would post pics of their house and people would go bananas saying it was so filthy. Ya know what! Yours probably looks just like mine! And if it doesn't come on over and help me clean up after my 4 older kids while I nurse my 2 m/o and play with my 2y/o, lol!
Great post! I will never be confused with June Cleaver, and I'm okay with that. I'd rather have a house that looks lived in than a place that looks like a showroom... cold and impersonal. Besides, with a 15 month old and a full time job, I just don't have the energy or time to sweat the small stuff.
Sweetie your house is clean compared to mine lol. I have 6 kids 2 teens 2 toddlers 2 babies no way my house can stay clean and I will not kill myself trying to keep it clean : )
I hate to say this, but I guess I have a house that looks likeit belongs in a magazine. I have a 10 year old son, and a 12 year old daughter...No their rooms dont look like our room, the kitchen or living room....but I know that if someone suddenly shows up at my door....they will see a clean house....
;) Mine don't belong in a mag either. Well, if you come between 10 and 11 am, maybe. But the rest of the day is a tossup. I just hope you don't see my kid's rooms...
mlregalado, your house looks like I could come over for a cup of coffee anytime! :)
Hey come on over, girl! I don't want people to think that I don't clean but the point is: I've learned that mess happnes. I've learned to relax... Sometimes...
It looks like mine also. How can someone work Full-time,take care of a 9 month old and make sure your house is clean. All I worry about is my kitchen, bathrooms and living room picked up some what and clothes. Other than that everywhere else looks like a train wreck..b/c i don't have the energy or time
