Each year when we have our family get together, we have a time of everyone sharing what they are especially thankful for or a blessing they received during the year. This happens after my mom reads the Christmas story from Luke. This year I felt especially lead to share the following:
I am SO thankful that God's love did not end at the cradle. It went on to the cross. God loves us so much that He sent His son to live among us, to be tempted as we are. Jesus was tempted many times as God in the flesh, but could not sin because He is perfect. Just think of the scene at Gethsemane where Jesus is praying. He knows what is coming up. He prays to His Father in Heaven, "Abba, Father, all things are possible to thee; remove this cup from me; yet not what I will, but what thou wilt." This is an all-too-human prayer, that we ourselves could utter. Many times we find ourselves in situations that we would like to not be in.
I am so glad that Jesus did not find an easy way out. Death on the cross was the only way for us to be reconciled to God. There had to be a perfect sacrifice for our sins, and that was in the form of God's only Son, Jesus. Jesus had to die on the cross to take the penalty for our sins. He fought the good fight with Satan after His death and won the victory by coming back to life. The good news is that He is alive! He won the victory over sin and death.
We are all sinners; we do things that make Jesus cry. He weeps with us and for us, because He knows how hard it is for us to live in our fleshly bodies and He weeps because those sins separate us from God. But we can go to Him and ask Him for help. He will make things right between us and God. Hallelujah!
