I know some of you may have thought that I was already married, because I refer to Joey as my husband, but really I am not. We are married, in every way that counts- in our hearts, in our commitment to each other, in our living situation, in our parenting, in our bank account (haha)- but we have never made anything official or spent any money on rings or a ceremony. We still don't have any money for those things, and I even told him I would be angry if he spent money on rings, but I guess my love decided to throw caution to the wind!
He proposed tonight. He asked me to come to a park that we have a history at (but it is also just a local park that Aura likes to play at). We met there and soon the other people there left. We walked around and played until I suggested that he take Aura up to the top of wooden structure and send her down the slide. He did. I was waiting at the bottom to catch her when a little box slid down the slide. I said, "what's this?" To which he replied, "just grab it." But then he quickly sent Aura down after (so I wouldn't have time to open it). Later, I found out he meant to send her down holding it, but as soon as he handed to her, she threw it down. Haha! He quickly jumped down and got on one knee. Despite my general rejection of the traditional stuff, it was all very exciting. I struggled (and am still struggling) not to think about the money. I keep thinking he should take the rings back and just let me use my old promise ring as an "engagement" ring. But he said no.
After that we went to the store to get Aura something to mark the night. We got her a charm bracelet and a heart charm to mark tonight. We also want to get her charms for her birth and her Blessingway, and then keep adding charms as she grows. The ring is a leo diamond with an enhancer (wedding ring that fits into engagement ring) that has sapphires (which is Aura's birth stone and another way of celebrating her). It's really very pretty and it draws all the light available. Joey is making me wait until Christmas day to announce it to my family (only one person in my family knows- because he says he had to tell one of them).
So, I'm engaged and I think I will use the word fiance to describe him for a while since I will have forever to use husband.

That is AWESOME!! I'm so happy for you! Weddings don't have to cost and arm & a leg. i wish I lived closer, I would totally be at your house jumping around a giggling with you! =) XOXO
Yay!! What a sweet guy you have there.. and so cute that Aura would throw it down to you! :) Congrats, mama!!
Thanks everyone! I love you guys for sharing in my joy since I haven't been able to tell my family yet! Noah'smomma, I know, I don't even want a big wedding, but I want a faraway location. Also, Joey insists Aura must big enough to be a flower girl. So, in a few years I suppose. Thanks again everyone!
