Someone had asked me to post a joural about my experiances with being a certified storm spotter. So, I said that I would..
I have encoutered many storms, but this one is by far the one that I was the most scared. This happened before I was certifed but because my husband was certified before me, I knew a lot already.. So, here goes..
I was heading to work on Mother's Day, and I heard on the radio that there was a tornado warning for Anoka Co. in East Bethel. So, I knew that the drive to work was not going to be good. I was at a stop light looking around to see if I could see the tornado coming, which I had not but then I seen this car in front of me which looked like it was full of teenagers. All of the sudden from the back window on the passanger side this gun comes out and the person waves it around. I looked around to see who this person was waving their gun at as then I was going to help them. I did not see anyone around and I called 911. I told them what I had saw and that I was also looking for a tornado that was heading right for now so I just wanted to give them heads up. So the dispacher told me to stay on the phone and they were calling police right now to head our way. I told them okay, she then hooked me up with the units that were going to intercept with us. The dispatcher told me to stay with them. I asked if they wanted me to follow them and she said yes.. So I thought great I am going to have a tornado on my ass, and person with a gun in front of me. So, I told the dispatcher that the person was going more then the speed limit and she said to keep up with them and asked me what the speed was. I told her that they were going 75 miles an hour and it was posted as 65. She said okay. I told her everything that was going on and I also told that I still did not see a tornado, but I seen the very dark clouds moving in.. So, she told me that the police were going to intercept at 65 and 118 street. I said okay, I even told them the description of the car. So, then she said, they are going to intercept on 65 and something (I cannot remember what road it was) and I said okay. The cops saw us and took off really fast and almost slammed into me. I then yelled "Not me, I am the blue car, they are the one in the brown car!" they then turned their wheels and went after them. I asked if I was suppose to pull over and she said yes, that they needed to talk to me. So after they found out what was going on and took the gun from them, the officer came back and talked to me, and said that I did a really good thing, and that they have been looking for this Mom and her Son for a while. I said "WHAT??" She said that a few days before someone shot someone with a Beebee gun and it hit this guy in the neck and he went out of control, and it caused a huge accident, and people died it this accident including the person that this kids shot with his beebee gun. I asked the cop, what the heck is a child doing with a Beebee gun and holding it out in the window. I guess the Mom said that she did not even knew that her kid had this gun. So needless to say, they both got arrested! The good thing about the tornado is I never saw it, but I knew that it was behind me because of the way that it looked and later on the news confirmed where I thought that it was.
I sure hope that this does happen again. But storms come to me, I don't want to find them, and I have a few more that I can tell you about, but I have to get going here to pick my son up...
So happy reading! :o)
