Want to inspire your daughter to get moving? Well according to a University of Albany study you've got to lace up mama. Parents’ Activity-Related Parenting Practices Predict Girls’ Physical Activity was reported on by NIH here. In a nutshell here's what you can do as a parent to ward off fat:

  • Enrolling girls in sports and driving them to events
  • Become an "explicit model"
What does it mean to be an explicit model?  No you don't dress in scanty workout gear.  Instead you set an example that physical activity is a part of your life.  In the findings "Mothers reported significantly higher levels of logistic support than fathers, whereas fathers reported higher levels of explicit modeling than mothers. "  Thay means moms drove more and dads exercised more--but both were important.
