This morning was a great new adventure. My son was feeling pukey before school. He had no fever, so I told him to get ready before I get back from taking his sister to school. I called him when I was about there to see how he was. He said he was ok and ready to go. As we are almost there he reveals that he also has a pain in his left side and the nausea is coming back. "I could be from the magnet I swallowed 2 days ago."
WHAT!!!
My 11 yr old son swallowed a magnet and failed to tell anyone. I got him back home and called the doctor on the way. I think I watch too many medical shows. I'm waiting for the emergency surgery to happen. The nurse FINALLY calls back and gets us in one of the 2 times they had open which was in less than half an hour. On a good day you can make it there in about 20 minutes. On the nasty roads from the blowing snow, it should take at least 40 minutes to get there. We were only a few minutes late.
Luckily, the doctor said his stomach is not distended and it didnt sound to blocking an airway. We had the option of going to get an X-ray. They may not be able to see it, but we can try it or wait it out. I took the X-ray option. He liked the gown they had him put on. It wasnt like a regular hospital gown and he said it was soft. Whatever...what are the results!! We got to see the computerized X-ray. Pretty cool looking really. You could see the magnet in him. The radiologist and the doctor talk and then I get to talk to the doctor. She said that it looks to be larger than we thought. He said it was penny sized, but it seems more like a quarter. (Oh My!) So far it had made it's way through the stomach and intestines. We just need to get him to release it.
Now we are waiting. I've given him softeners and a laxative. It's going to be stay around home time until it's out.
