From the mind of Liz

ramblings of a burnt out mom

Ive just about had enough of all the negativity and down right rudeness towards those of us mothers who have chosen to home school our children. I'm tired of those that don't know anything about it or understand what we do with our kids totally judging us as unfit to teach our children or labeling us as weirdos, saying that we are sheltering our kids...yadda yadda yadda, bla bla BLAAAAAA.

ENOUGH!

Lets here it for the home schooled kids! If you home school, post here and share something awesome about the experience, maybe post some of your kids accomplishments, just something POSITIVE, because I don't think I can take much more of the negativity.

I love home-schooling my boys. I love spending all that extra time with them, and watching their little faces light up when understanding strikes home. It truly amazes me just how much they love to learn.

My boys actually have more friends and do more now that we homeschool then they did in PS!  We are always going somewhere and doing something with the people in our homeschool group. Back in November we visited an old Indian Village and my boys learned so much and loved it.. they both ended up doing a whole bunch of crafts and asking to learn MORE! LOL :)

I have been a homeschooling mom for inbetween 6-8 years, we had 2 years in a private school and 1.5 in a SC public school. I have to say that in general homeschooled children are smarter, more well rounded, more sociable and able to join in and interact with people of all ages not just their own which is something I have seen QUITE A BIT with PS children. Don't listen to a word they say Liz, the women who are bashing are most likely PS moms who if they are lucky have met 1 or 2 homeschooled children in their entire lives or their husband claim to have met a weirdo who was homeschooled. It's not likely that they are truely informed on this topic, In truth HS is becoming so widely accepted that public schools are now offering virtual school options so that they can still get government funding for homeschooled children because even they know that homeschooling is better and more and more parents are choosing this route. Let them talk, I have seen the public schools recently and if they want to defend that and bash you then as our mother's would have said... look at the source

I'm a huge supporter of homeschooling, even though I'm not a future homeschooling mom. Teaching is not my "gift" and simply have no desire to homeschool.

I'm blessed with a husband who has been a teacher for 16yrs and he works in a really good district where our children will go to school. He knows all the teachers as not as he taught in the district for 16yrs but as a child he went there. I know for us as a family public schooling is best for us, but it is NOT the best choice for everyone for a variety of reasons.

I don't homeschool, but I have many friends who do, and I have nothing but respect for them.  Their children are well- rounded, accomplished and mannerly.  Lessons more of our public school children could use!

My little one is only 20 months old. Unless she tells us without hesitation that she wants to go to school, she will be homeschooled. We are fortunate in that our local school offers 1/2 day Kindergarten 5 days a week (the last of its kind in the district if I'm not mistaken) and that's the ONLY way she'll go.

We probably won't see a lot of support for it from our family or our neighbours. I don't care about that at all. We're making the right decision for our daughter, not for them.

Love spending time with my kids everyday. Watching them learn is so wonderful. The first time my 6 year old read a book he bounced around the kitchen he was so excited. Those moments are priceless and I wouldn't trade them for anything. It's moments like that when I realize we made the right decision for our family!!

Thank you ladies! Im so happy to see GOOD things about homeschooling, it gets so frustrating when you see so many other moms really saying rude and awful things about the way we have chosen to teach our kids, most of them just dont understand and therefore choose to approach the subject in a negative way...I wish more would have an open mind about it  and assume the best instead of always assuming the worst about homeschooling families.

I love homeschooling.  My kids are terrific and fun to be around, and it's great to see it when the "get" something.  I love working at the pace that works for them, not too fast, not too slow.  We can really study subjects of interest in great depth.

My kids have a chance to make real friends, because when they get together with their friends, it's for 3-4 hours, not 20 minutes at recess.  They get to participate in all the fun activities our area has to offer, like skiing with our homeschool ski club on weekdays when the other kids are in school.
