Mommy Soldier Journals

Life as a Mommy and Soldier...

Mommy Soldier Reporting for duty...

Since we are on the subject of Physical Fitness..I just had to share another funny story.

So for those of you who have not read the previous post let me bring you up to speed. My hubby and I are soldiers in the Army Reserve. We gave birth to a sweet baby boy named Alex (Private in these journals) just about a year ago. We have been struggling to stay fit (Army Fit that is) for the past few months which has caused us to look outside of traditional training to find help.

Moving on...So we agreed to do the mall power walks this week which cracked me up. Sorry but I still think its a crazy idea. Anyway last week I was out and saw the new Kim Kardasian workout video and decided to purchase it. I know what your thinking...yes, my hubby's idea was just has crazy as this one in the eyes of fellow soldiers but hear me out.

We needed something to do on the cold days that would offer cardio in place of running. Well, I put in the video and took a look. At first glance I was in awe...no way this routine would stand toe to toe with a good old fashion Army PT session. But ten minutes later I am on the floor in pain begging my hubby to turn it off.

WOW was I wrong!

That video had me sweating and breathing so hard I had to sit out most of it. Now, I can honestly say it kicked my butt. Sadly, my hubby is scared to try it after watching me throw in the towel so early.

Civilian Life gets another point!

Maybe if we combine the mall power walks with Kim's routine we might score 300pt on the next APFT!

I'll keep you posted..lol

Who would have thought a year ago we would be here. Got to love it!

Carry on Soldier!

Mommy Soldier Reporting for Duty...

OK, it's been a while..let's just say I was on R&R. My days and nights have been full of everyday Army life as you can imagine. News of going to Korea for training was cancelled (thanks God) so that was great. I wasn't ready for the cold weather since I hear it's much like Missouri. My baby boy is about to turn one so my mind is on planning his celebration. As a family we have decided to kick our military careers up a notch so I am sure there will be plenty to write about.

Moving on...

Today I am reporting on Physical Training. Like most people the New Year brings the desire to improve my fitness level. As soldiers we are encouraged to maintain a standard that many struggle to meet. So far my hubby and I have agreed to at least loose the baby weight (yes, he gained over that time) by the Privates 1st birthday. Well, that is now two weeks away and though I have about 7lbs to go, the hubby has more like 15-20lbs!

Now let's be real...can a soldier loose 20lbs in two weeks? Yes, if they adhere to the ARMY Fitness Routine right!? Not so fast, these journals are about balancing Army Life and Civilian life so we can't just do the obvious thing..lol

So, my hubby wakes up this morning and states that we should meet at the local mall every evening after work to POWER WALK.

What the hell?

Power walk?

We are soldiers...we don't power walk I thought to myself. We wake up at the crack of dawn, run 2 or more miles with 35lbs rucks on our backs, and do exercises that have crazy names like "Flutter Kicks".

He wants to power walk? I didn't respond right away because it was just too funny. Can power walking help us shed the last of our baby weight?

In the end I agreed and we plan to start later this week. My visions of 2 mile runs push-ups on gravel and up down goes, are all but replaced. We have chosen the civilian side once again! LOL

Wow, how much we have changed..lol No more PT Studs for us..we have settled with being normal.

So, if you see two soldiers in ARMY PT's speed walking pass you in the mall..please just smile and move to the side. Oh, and yes the private will be in the baby stroller singing cadences!

Front Leaning Rest Position...Move!

Tisk.. Tisk.. you've become complacent soldier! Conduct your own P.T. granted it doesn't have to be at the crack of dawn but whenever.  Use the deck of cards for sit ups/pushups, throw in some of those crazy named deals (flutter kicks etc) and once a month conduct your own P.T. Test...  time one another counting how many sit ups/push ups you get in two minutes.

LOL...we call that the deck of death. Well today we were suppose to go power walk but the hubby decided to work an extra shift ( so planned..lol). So I did PT on my own...man was it boring. I miss working out in a group..that was my motivation. This one on one stuff is for the birds. And of all of the "civilian" ways to work out, why does he pick power walking at the mall? What the Heck Soldier?

Thanks for sharing Sruiz05!
