I received this message about a friend of mine from high school.
On Amy's 30th birthday, January 6, 2010, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. After under going numerous tests and procedures, a double mastectomy was scheduled for January 15th. She was informed by her insurance carrier two days prior to surgery that she was being dropped.
A pet scan on January 22 revealed a spot on her liver approximately one inch in size. In roughly 10 days, we will begin chemotherapy treatments that will last 4-6 months. Her treatment will be very aggressive, with liver surgery and double mastectomy to follow.
Please continue to be in prayer for Amy as she begins her treatment.
This makes me so upset. So here is a young woman that deserves a chance at life. The insurance company is allowed to dump her. That sucks. I hate that our country cares more about money than people.
Comments:
That's really sad, Becca. I'm sorry your friend is so ill. I hope that she is able to get the help she needs and that she recovers.
UGH That makes me mad too. That just tears me up, my MIL was denied any insurance or coverage because she wasn't born here. She was only allowed extremely basic medical care for her ovarian cancer, and it just drained my husband. Those companies are so heartless and evil.
That's awful Rebecca. How can they do that? Are they claiming pre-existing condition? I can't see any reason to just drop someone. I feel so bad for her to have that stress on top of the treatment itself.
My sister had breast cancer and I know the toll it takes on them. I will send positive vibes to Amy and to her family who she needs to be strong for her.
Yeah and also, my grandma had breast cancer. She had one breast removed, but she's been absolutely cancer-free ever since. I have a feeling your friend will pull through and be fine in the end =)
Thanks everyone. I don't know how they can deny her. It seems wrong that they can because she is paying.
I am sorry about your grandma caitxrawks.
I'm sorry. That's truly awful. Insurance, grrr. I'll be saying a prayer for her.

I'm sorry about your friend, Rebecca. I will say that I agree there needs to be dispensation for people with pre-existing conditions. But that's all I'll say.
