Watching animals on a webcam can be a very rewarding experience. Some kids love webcams and there are so many to choose from, both in the wild and in zoos. For some people, a webcam is the only chance they will have to see some of these animals interacting with their environment. Here are a collection of some of my favorites I have watched in the past (and present):
Lily the black bear webcam from the North American Bear Center. She recently became the first wild black bear to give birth to a cub on the webcam! There is a great, education blog on the webcam page.
Africam has webcams set up in wild Africa. They have more than one, so you can see elephants, flamingos, hyena, mongoose and more, at multiple sites (around the world). They also have streamin cams, refresh cams and recorded footage so you can be sure to see something interesting, even if it is not live.
Gatorland in Florida lets you control the camera. There are lots of alligators in this one, and it's a little funny to watch the birds stay away from them.
Monteray Bay Aquarium has a variety of webcams, from sea otters to sharks! I love the kelp forest!!
The Smithsonian National Zoo maintains a long list of webcams for viewing animals in their collection, including pandas, sloth, octopus, cheetah, lions and amazon river fish! This is the only octopus webcam I have ever seen.
The Museum Victoria has a tarantula webcam, with LOTS of webbing!
Wildlife Focus has multiple webcams of the rainforest.
The San Diego Zoo also has an elephant webcam, in their "wild" life park, as well as monkey, polar bear and other webcams.
The Natural History Museum has a unique ant webcam.
National Geographic has an African Elephant webcam, too.
Anyone else have other good ones to share? I would love to see what you are watching!
