I learned to knit as a kid in 4H but hadn't done it for many years. About 8 months ago, I took a class to refresh myself at Joanns and now knitting has become an obsession!
What ails you? Maybe knitting can help.
Are you stressed out?
There is something about holding a hank of soft, beautiful yarns in my hand that is soothing and makes the troubles of the world disappear. If I'm down, I can go visit my local yarn shop, search for an easy pattern online, chat with knitter friends online or at the store or just sit down and knit.
One of my favorite things to do is to put on an old movie and knit. There is something meditative about creating something beautiful and keeping your hands busy. Through knitting, you can connect with millions of women who have made beautiful things down through the ages and you feel part of a community. What's better for stress than that?
Do you have Health problems?
I can tell you first hand that there is nothing better for your health than focusing on something positive, that brings you pleasure. Instead of focusing on ill health, get away from it by taking up a knitting obsession!
Another way to feel good is to do something for others. Knitting can provide a way to give back. Knit hats for children and give them away, Knit caps for chemo patients or lap aphgans for a nursing home near you. Make a prayer shawl for someone - or for yourself. Prayer and giving are very powerful and healing.
Would you like to lose weight?
A friend told me today that knitting burns 100 calories per hour! Plus it keeps your hands too busy to snack.
Do you have excess money?
Buy yarn and knitting needles! Your stash can never get too large. Think of all those people you're helping by buying their products-lol.
Don't have enough money?
Make gifts for people! This Christmas, I made a scarf and hat for 3 grandchildren and a scarf each for my 3 daughters. Two daughters recently had babies and I made baby blankets and hats for them. People really appreciate hand made items and everybody needs a scarf, right?
If you don't have a hobby of some kind, you're missing out on a great pleasure in life. Don't know how to knit? Ask a friend or take a class. Find videos on YouTube or knitting sites. Make a hat or scarf is easy. You can also use a knifty knitter, which even your child could do.
A word of caution about knitting - it can quickly become a passion. You find your car turns automatically into the parking lot of every nearby yarn store. Your closets are soon bursting with yarn and you're looking for more places to stash it. Soon you have several projects going at one time and patterns for several more.
It's great!
If you're a knitter, pass this on to your friends so they can join you.

This is great! I got a "teach yourself to knit" kit for Christmas from my husband and I have taught myself the basics so far and I love it!
I am going to pass this along through my journal if that is OK? Thanks
