Being the younger woman married to an older man, life can be interesting to say the least. I have a 2 yr old and we have custody of his 13 yr old daughter. Although we do have our moments her and I get along surprisingly well most of the time.
I try to be both her friend but also her Mom, which is like walking a tight rope at times. It's funny but when we become parents we don't want our kids making the same mistakes we did but sometimes we have to realize that we need to let them learn from their mistakes...as long as they aren't major mistakes.
I want my daughter to be able to talk to me about anything and I try to be there for her. I am learning that she will not always like what I have to say but I also explain to her that I've btdt and it is my responsibility to keep her safe and grow into an emotionally and physically healthy young adult. I want her to be proud of who she is, respect others, and not do things that would jeopardize her safety. But I also have to be honest with her about my own mistakes and hopefully guide her along the way. I want her to get a good education, I want her to stay away from drugs, and I want her to experience love in a meaningful and committed relationship when she is older.
I know that there are people that judge my situation and don't think I can be a good mother, but all I can do is what I think is best and not worry about what other people say to me. The people that do know me realize that my entire focus in life is on my kids and my husband and I constantly strive to be the best wife and mother I can be.
So my point in all of this is that, yes I am young but age does not reflect my abilities or my committment to my kids and husband. I do the best I can every day of my life and I consider myself very lucky to have the family that have!
That's my post for today! Katie
