Looking for a good stand mixer

I'm really getting into this baking stuff but I don't have a stand mixer. I know that Kitchen Aid is supposed to be the best, but it also cost alot of money. I want to what else is out there besides KA. Right know I will mainly be using the mixer to mix, cookie dough, cake batter, making icing etc.. but have a good mixer may lead me into doing more cooking.

Please help let me know what you are using and why.  Thanks

I have a Sunbeam ....my husband got it for me last Christmas at Target. i think he spent withing the $70-$80 range on it and I am very happy with it's performance.

My youngest daughter has celiacs disease - so i do a lot of GLUTEN-FREE cooking - the dough is MUCH MUCH thicker and harder to mix....and although the Sunbeam could do a little better a job of the glutel free dough.....it does it's job.

I'm sure having said that - that regular dough iwht regular flour and such would be a breeze to mix in it.

Wish I could help. I have a kitchenaid. My SO got it for me for Christmas.

@ tropicalmama which one do u have and well do u like. Some of the reviews that I have been reading online or not good.
