I know that many of you are already mommas, but I'd still like your support.
I have had this on my heart for a while and I
feel that it is God's calling on my life. After again inquiring about
the fees of a newborn needing immediate placement and being told the
atty fees were $20,000, I have decided NOW is the time. I am forming a
group who is willing to help me make some changes in the adoption
arena. MAMA (Making Adoption
More Affordable). The simple fact
that couples are maxing out credit cards or taking out second mortgages
on their homes in order to start a family is absurd. Facilitators and
attorneys who charge these ridiculous fees must be placed under
control. They are preying on our (prospective adoptive parents)
emotions and it is NOT right.
If you are interested in
joining me to help in this cause, please contact me. Babies are a gift
from God, not a commodity to be sold and make people rich.

While adoption is not in our future (at least right now) I will DEFINITELY join you. I think it is horrible that there are families out there that can comfortably provide for a child, but because of the outrageous amount of money it takes to adopt they will never be able to do so. So many kids are going without good homes because of this, and I think it is time to put an end to it.
We have adopted three children through foster care and we love them dearly but would love to adopt an infant through a private adoption but can't afford the fees. Foster care adoption in our state doesn't cost us any money, as we get a bill for about $700 and then the state pays you to pay that attorney fee. They just want the kids to have forever homes and by providing the money to adopt hopefully more of these kids will get adopted. I can't believe the outragous fees for adoption, we could provide easily enough for an infant if it weren't that money thing. I will gladly join you.
That's exactly why we went the International Route. Under 9k including the trip to India for 2.
We could never afford to adopt Domestic Newborn!
Adoption really doesnt cost that much unless you go through a private agency. my parents have adopted 4 children and all they ever had to pay was court cost, that was it. they said its not expensive at all. (they have adopted from two diffrent states)
Yes newborns are expensive to adopt. But children in foster care are not. You can't legislate what a private business (Lawyer) wants to charge. They made a good deal of those costs tax deductable now.
I have friends who have spent a whole lot MORE than 20K on infertility treatments. Because their insurance wouldn't cover it.
AND that money is NOT tax deductable. Think insurance companies should be forced to pay for infertility also?
absolutely all for joining your cause...i would love to adopt children..i really don't understand why they are allowed to "sell" children this way..it is sick...and very wrong!! It hurts that we love children and could give children an extremly happy home..we may not be rich but our children lack for nothing...food on the table clothes on their backs, and love in their hearts...that is what matters and of course a true knowledge of the love of Jesus Christ
I so agree! We paid $22K for ours and it is ridiculous. I want to adopt again, but can't. Count me in
If I were to put a child up for adoption, I would probably try to get as much money as possible, for a few reasons and the least of all is for the money itself. My thinking would be, if someone will pay a lot for something, they must truly want it, and will take better care of it than someone who paid a few hundred. So while I understand your predicament, think of it like this, you are giving a little amount of peace to a person who loved her child enough not to abort it, and enough to let someone else raise it, it cant be easy for the mother (or father really), to give their child away to someone who might sound great on paper, but there is no security, no way to know that the parents who adopt the baby dont later beat it. Like I said, changes are you will take better care of something you paid more for.
I hope that helps you understand a little more. But im sorry that the prices are so high that it prevents good people from helping LO's that need homes.
chipper, birth moms are not allowed to profit in adoptions. the fees go to attorneys, the government, and agencies.

Y ou are absolutely correct. This is an abomination and another reason why americans are not able to adopt.. There are millions of children... NOT JUST BABIES needing homes.. and there are millions more babies being murdered because the mothers are aware it is nearly impossible to adopt in a timely manner. I feel for you.
