We are buying the kids new beds, but I have no idea what type to get. The salesman told us to get memory foam because it is best for their spines and best for allergies. I personally don't like laying on memory foam, but I will buy whatever is best and will last the longest. I was thinking of getting them a spring bed with pillow top.
Anyone have any recommendations? Is memory foam really best? Can I put a fluffy down alternative mattress pad on top of memory foam to make it a little more inviting?
Comments:
Years ago I bought the pillow top. Loved it for about a year or two, but got sick of flipping and rotating the thing. And still it sunk in the middle. Up untill the end I put blankets and pillows to keep from rolling in the middle with my husband. I have the memory foam now. LOVE, LOVE, LOVE IT! It does not breath like a regular mattress. So if your prone to alot of nightsweat, you might reconsider. I didn't buy the Temper Pedic. I just got the memory foam. (same thing, different price) At first it felt harder than my old mattress. But after a couple of minutes you just melt away. Neither I or my husband wake up with stiff backs or necks. Considering getting the kids the foam bed because they have really bad allergeries. Other than being a little hotter, they are great!
Our bed is memory foam with a pillow-top. It is so comfy. I was skeptical at first but I love it now.

All I can tell you about is the down mattress. My husband didn't like it, but I sure do. Mine is very heavy (bought it for a king size bed) and got the highest loft available. It's a lot of work fluffing it every day, and if it isn't done right, it's very uncomfortable. Also, you have to be certain you get a feather mattress that the feathers have been hyper-cleaned to remove any possibility of allergy.
The only thing I know about memory foam is that you need to do your research on brands to get something made in America because imported foam can give off chemicals in the air...I read this in some report on the net.
Sorry I can't be of any further or better help.
