You all know by now that I'm going to be going to college.
After reading some journal entries from fellow college moms, it seems like there's a gross majority that dislikes college moms. Either it's because we have to sacrifice time with our kids to study or go to class, or it's because we're not consciously available for our kids 24/7.
Now ya'll got me terrified.
True, I'm going to college in order to better myself. I'm going because I WANT to. I refuse to sit back on my fat ass and let it get fatter. I do not want to be a housewife forever. It is not my calling in life. I want to study history and anthropology and other cultures.
But I am also going to school for JOSSALYN.
I want to go to school so I can get a job that pays well. I want to make a contribution to the family. I want us to be able to afford nice things, and not have to struggle to feed ourselves.
Why is this looked down upon?
Yes, I'm going to have to sacrifice "Mommy and Me" time in order to study. But shouldn't people be HAPPY for me instead of condemning me and others like me?
I know I shouldn't let it bother me. I should say "To hell with you!" and do what I want.
But for some reason, I just can't stop caring about what others think.
Comments:
Well, some want to be housewives and some want more. You want more, therefore, you take the steps necessary to get it. It is what's right for you. You can't please everyone, so you might as well please yourself. (Mind out of the gutter you!)
You know what gets me through EVERYTHING? Remembering it is only temporary. Everything is temporary. You won't be going to school forever, but the positive effects on you, your education, your wisdom, your mental state, your daughter, her goals and how she sees everything will last your whole lives.
I remember the first week I started my Master's degree. I was so excited! But I found out I was pregnant. I considered dropping out 'before it was too late', but I pushed through. That was 6 years ago, and now I work 9-5, make good money, and am very happy with the whole thing. this has made a very stable home for my daughter while my husband pushes through school. He'll be done in a year, and we are all excited for him to get to work and provide even more stability. And since both their parents are educated, it is very likely our kids will be too, providing another generation of the same :)
It's hard, but keep your eye on the prize. This is only temporary.
I agree with all thats been stated. I will just add that when I finished graduate school everyone could not believe I did. You are your hero. You children will love the fact that you did it and will be proud of you. Its all a matter of choice. You are giving yourself the opportunity to do more with more. Nothing from nothing leaves nothing. I wonder if the same people who are saying these things would tell their kids don't go to school its okay! No! I dont think these moms will do that. Follow your dream otherwise it will escape you!! On that very day of graduation your kids will beam with joy and your heart will pound with excitement for you have accomplished your dream!!
God Luck and God Bless,

I think just the opposite. I commend you for going to school. If you must, go part time so you have more time with Jossalyn. You'll get through it, trust me.
LOL...Hopefully this fall after my "baby" start kindergarten, I get to get my 2nd degree lol. Of course my husband will also graduate with his BS in May of this year too.
I believe in teaching ALL children lots of things..culture..humanity..and EDUCATION!!! In fact in it highly regarded in our church, and talked about often...to educate yourself, and to keep on educating yourself, and to expose yourself to culture. So, we do that. We have also tried to make it a priority with our kids.
I guess everyone is entitled to the own narrow minded opinion, but I think going to further your education is a tremendous gift to your daughter. And who cares what people think..They will either get over..or get up with it one..HUH? LOL..
Go for it..education is always great...and anyone that says otherwise, is showing their lack of it.
