As an Internet marketing distributor for a product brokerage company, the thought of Valentine's day being recession proof is alright by me. However, what is that really saying? Why would it be that anyone would feel they have to buy "something" for their special someone. I understand the notion that it is a day to recognize love and celebrate it with the one you love. Which in my opinion should be everyday and not just one day out of the year. Honestly, could it be that Valentine's day is a day that too many feel they have to emphasize?

I say celebrate Valentine's Day however you and your special someone feel good about. If that entails flowers, chocolates, dinner out, jewelry, or any other romantic gesture, then by all means indulge. I, on the other hand, would appreciate sentiments that come free for the pocket but pay a price where effort is concerned.

I would like a day where my husband took over in the house. That would mean getting up in the morning with the kiddos while I slept in and feeding them breakfast. Breakfast also means doing the dishes and keeping the kitchen clean. No messes allowed. Then, after I woke up a nice day out with the family would be fun. A walk in the park, a bike ride, or a jeep ride to nowhere in particular. It wouldn't matter which one of those we did, as long as we were together. Later, we could make a chocolate cake  and eat it while we watched a movie. When the kids finally fell asleep a hot bubble bath could be lots of fun while sipping on some wine. And of coarse my favorite, a back rub! Don't think the hubby goes unrewarded for all this "me" stuff. We all know what a little relaxation can do for a woman.

Free stuff and not so complicated. Let truth be told, even if only one of the above happened it would be so appreciated. For me love isn't about all the commercial stuff we see flashed around for Valentine's day. It's about making a choice to be committed to one another. Committed to making each other feel supported, respected, admired, and appreciated.

So, Valentine's Day, recession proof? Not in my house. Money spent is money spent but efforts are priceless.

Happy Valentine's Day to you all!

I know its ridiculous how this holiday has gotten blown way out of proportion. I was one of those as well today shopping at target getting the kids little goodies (mind you I was in the $1 bins..lol) and still need a few more things to pick up. Hubby has to work early tommorrow and is sick, so we are not doing anything in particular for each other. I could bring myself to buy one more stuffed animal for the kids, so they got books, coloring books and funky socks..lol
