Ok I just read a long post in Deals and Steals about coupons and several mom's posted how they love WIC and how they don't feel guilty about being on it, and suggesting other mom's try it!!!!

I'm glad WIC is there for those who need it. But I wish some would be more thankful to the other tax paying american's who provide it! It's not free! The money comes from other families like mine who are RRREALLY struggling right now!

I guess we can just all be on WIC and totally backrupt the country!

I just really sensitive right now as my husbands works in sales on commission and in the past two years, because of the economy we've seen his income drop by 1/3. Not easy with a family of 8!

Thanks... I needed to vent!

I understand about things being really tight. My DH used to have a job where he got commission. It was hard not knowing how paychecks were going to be. Some weeks were good weeks, some were bad. Luckily at the time, it was just the two of us and no baby. But the whole WIC argument gets frustrating. Believe me, I would love to be on WIC to help our money situation out a bit but DH makes too much money for it. My SIL says "Oh just go in there yourself with DD. They'll give it to you then!". First of all, I have no idea how that's even possible, and secondly, I'm not going to cheat the system. We were in food stamps when I was young and genuinely needed it yet saw so many people who didn't and just wanted a little bit of a handout.

I understand that government run programs are a bit of a gray area, but I do appreciate they're there WHEN/IF we need them. My SIL and others should appreciate what they have.

Anyone who has a job and pays taxes pays for WIC too...so unless none of those people (or their husbands) are employed, they are paying for it just as much as your family is.

I don't see how WIC is any kind of deal or steal because they only groceries they will pay for is garbage food but that's neither here nor there I suppose.

aurorabunny, garbage food? I was under the assumption they paid for baby foods and milks and cheeses, formulas (if you go that route) etc. Since when is milk and cheese garbage food?

Dairy products are really horrible for you.  80% of the country is lactose intolerant; our bodies just weren't meant to process those foods.

If people want to eat dairy it's none of my concern, but I wish the government would step up and offer struggling families the opportunity to eat foods that were GOOD for them.

I've seen what my SIL buys her children on WIC. It's not bad stuff. Dairy is fine in moderation.

She's also on food stamps, now THAT is a program that needs to regulate what you can buy on it. She buys them junk food constantly and I wish she would use her food stamps for better foods, but that's what a lot of people use their food stamps on because it's cheaper to buy the junk food which will allow their food stamps to stretch further.

I was on it for a few months when my son was first born almost 4 years ago and none of what they offered was healthy at all.  Maybe they've changed because there weren't any fruits or vegetables offered at that time.

And dairy really isn't fine in moderation.  Like I said, people can eat/drink whatever they want, it's just a fact that it's not good for ya.
