I am a germaphobe! No doubt about it. Just ask any one of my four children. It's all about washing hands PROPERLY and using a hand sanitizer when the sink is not around. I believe in prevention. That requires living a lifestyle that is health friendly. Exercise, good eating habits, supplements ( when needed), and plenty of rest is so important. It's amazing how much one can beat the cold and flu season just by learning to make good choices. However, sometimes this just doesn't happen. Life gets crazy. Especially for us moms who have to wear so many different hats. We all know how crappy it is when we get sick. Our world can't be put on hold until we get better. So when a cold strikes us down, what's the best remedy? Chicken Soup!
Yes, it is true. Except, I believe chicken soup from scratch has a better result than soup from the can. It has been said that the amino acid that is released from the chicken when it is being cooked resembles the drug acetylcysteine ( a drug prescribed for bronchitis and other respiratory problems). Also, spices such as garlic and pepper work the same way as modern cough medicines that thin mucus and make breathing easier.These statements came from an article I once read on the Internet. From my own personal experience it holds some truth and value. I have found homemade chicken soup has helped my family and I.
Chicken soup may not be a cure but it helps with comfort. There is no real cure for a cold. So,When we stumble across one all we can really do is let our bodies battle it out for us. That is why prevention is the best way!
