this makes no sense....

if the IRS could take $5,000 out of our $8,000 that we should have got this year, because of a debt my husband had in the army(star car) before we got married. why on earth did they wait almost 4 freaking years later?!!!

wouldn't it have made more sense to have been sent some sort of bill for the damn thing so we could have taken care of it on our own? but no in stead thy closed out the account after he was medically discharged. and we didn't see shit from it until now. when we are hurting bad and needed the taxes to catch up on some of the bills we got behind on due to hubby losing his job back in Oct. he still hasn't been able to find work since... this economy is fucked up the government is fucked up and no i don't blame our president. i blame the last 3 presidents they all had their hand in the mess too.

but seriously they wait almost 4 years later?  why didn't we see any bills? or any phone calls? i'm a stay a home mom i check the mail, i answer the phone. the onl phone call from a collector we have ever gotten was when we found out that father in law got a credit card in hubby's name(he did that in 2002) and they stopped calling when i told them that the address they had was my father in laws and that my husband was over sea(irqa) when that card was gotten. along with that fact that it had hubby's ssn# but it had father in law's birth day!!

if they would irs would have taken the money out last year it wouldn't bothered me son much because hubby still had his job then. anything to screw people over now a days.

This kind of thing happened to us last year. My husband has student loans and they took the entire refund because our payroll person neglected to take a couple payments out like its supposed to which put him in default. We got the new home buyer tax credit which made us getting back a nice chuck. They took every cent without a word. I ended up having to file an injured spousal claim in order to get what is owed to me. IF you didn't do that yet or don't know about it, do it. Make sure you claim all kids too so you get that credit as well. It will take forever to get your money back, but at least you'll get something back. I have to file this every year now till this debt is payed off. Sucks, but at least its something.
