MASON: Parents need to take responsibility for their children's lives

I'm in the Union computer lab.
A woman sits behind me playing Texas hold ‘em, and her son sits next to me playing an online Transformers game. Here's a play by play of the last five minutes:
In frustration he threw his water bottle at the keyboard.
He shook a plastic bag.
Now he's speedily smashing his fingers against the keyboard saying, "Faster, faster, faster!"
And just when I didn't think it could get any worse, his mother just walked out of the lab and he has thrown himself on the floor.
My friend Chelsea is sitting nearby. We keep sharing awkward glances. When I look over at the boy, he gives me looks that vary from terrified to defiant.
Great, now he's opening his Tootsie Pop. Perfect.
Now I can hear him gnaw at it like a four-toothed rat.
Each computer has a screen saver clearly stating that these computers aren't for games. So why does this child, who I think it's safe to assume does not go to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and his mother (who, to be fair, might go to UNL, and might be taking Gambling 101) get to?
I can't beleive there are mother's out there woh are that inconsiderate!
