When some of us around here were kids, the Olympics were an all day affair on more than one station. There was little commentary and few commercials. I miss that. I was distressed that American Idol ranked over top of the Olympics the other night...how sad for those amazing people representing their countries. Hopefully, the other countries had better coverage!

I learned a few things this year. I have never been appreciative of snow boarding before and WOW...that is a bizarre, scary, and totally awesome sport! And Shaun White is just FUN! I laughed so much when he talked about his mom taking his gold medal in to the dry cleaners to get the ribbon cleaned. And watching the kids slide their way down the slopes  on skis and boards....scared me to death! How come sports are so scary???? That downhill race that the young ladies Lindsey and Julia won was downright frightening! The gals that crashed and slid..Yowch!  And Ice Skating. I adore and always have ice skating. I grew up on skates and with Dorothy Hamill and Scott Hamilton and all the rest. I even had a Dorothy Hamill haircut! I am so excited to watch the ice dancing tonight! I loved watching the pairs skate and almost cried when the couple won their gold. And last night's men's skating..I thought the young man from Russia who has the hard name to spell totally ROCKED! And when Evan won the gold the look on his face was priceless! I felt very bad for the other young man, Evan's dimples came and went and the others face was so sad. And I loved watching the  young Canadian. Patrick Chan was totally amazing. I cannot wait to see what he and the young man from Japan will do in the next Olympics. When the young man's skate lace broke he took it so well and I was so amazed that he came out and rocked the place with the last of his routine. And no one will ever forget the young American Johnny Weir's very odd costume in his short program. I actually thought his short one was better than the long one. In the short one he reeked personality and in the long one, he just skated well. Speed skating has always seemed to me to be overly dangerous, but those guys and gals just zip around and it is like flying on ice. Very proud of those skaters!

All in all, I LOVE the Olympics and hope people are watching these wonderful talented people! And it is not just USA..it is just talent. I keep recalling the man who commented during the pairs skating. It is not how well you perform or how good you are and how good the world knows you are, it is how well you do at this exact time right now. That is so true in so many parts of our  lives! We have to do the best we can right NOW and not dwell on the past or the future.

I was so sad that the young Russian was so nasty about his silver and tonight as I watched the girls, I could see that sadness again. I sincerely hope that Mao's country is as proud of her as they can. She was AMAZING to watch and it was an incredible skate. Kim was well..magic on ice. And the thing that blew me away the most was not the performaces of Kim and Mao, but of Joannie. I cried and cried as I watched her not only skate, but win a bronze medal. Being able to do that after the death of her mom on Sunday..it still makes me cry. Scott coined it when he said she became an Olympic legend. It still makes me cry!

Oddest thing, I saw those three on the podium in my mind yesterday..with those exact medals.
