Today, Dave and I started work on our room renovations. We pulled all the nasty wood paneling and the shelves down, and got the drywall hung. Oh, but what a day...
I woke up this morning with a HORRIBLE migraine. My usual cocktail (claritin, benadryl, and aspirin) didn't work, so I was SOL. Luckily, by the time hubby got home from church, it had subsided to a headache that I could deal with. Our frined had to back out of helping us, because he wound up going out drinking last night and needed to recuperate. So hubby was PISSED cause he was counting on the friend's help. I get him calmed down, offering my help instead. So we leave the kids upstairs with his parents so we could come downstairs and work. His brother comes down as we're pulling the paneling down and tells us he's called a couple people to come over and help. (AWESOME!!!!) So he tells us to go to Home Depot and get the material, and he'll finish demo for us. (Even more awesome!!!) So off we go...
Flash forward - we got all the material into the house and Dave begins to hang drywall. Everyone who had helped get everything in is just standing around, watching Dave work. Dave's getting irritated, because they're not helping and they're all in his way. (There's really not all that much room to maneuver with all that's still in our room - bed, couch, dresser...and then add all the new material, and then add 6 people...so yeah, not that much room at all.) Dave finally hits his breaking point when he's stuck upstairs watching the kids, cause everyone decided to scatter after dinner - and most of them came down to our room just to sit. We have a minor spat, but stopped when we realized we weren't mad at each other, and so continued to work.
His brother comes down a bit later - by this time, he's consumed QUITE a bit of alcohol. He picks Dave up, and winds up staggering him into the brand new wall that we had JUST put up, leaving a hole in the brand new drywall. Oh, was Dave MAD!!! Thankfully, we had enough drywall to fix it - so no major damage, but still frustrating nonetheless. (And now, looking back, I can say that it was pretty funny...)
Well, anyway, Dave and I finally finished work tonight at 9 - perfect timing, cause the boys didn't take a nap today, and they needed to go to bed. I have to go to work tomorrow, but Dave's off, so he'll be working on putting up the frame for the wall that will contain our new fireplace and TV. My muscles are already achy and sore - I can only imagine the shape I'll be in tomorrow. I should be able to post pics up with our progress so far tomorrow.
