You were gone -
Before I could blink
Never drawing-a first breath
Lost- just like your namesake
Crumbled- sand within a tomb
It was too late to say I love you
Too heart-wrenching to say goodbye
Now you sit- in a tiny space
Inside- my battered heart
Strength- it won't come easy
Lord knows- it never has
Yet somehow- I will get through
My silent tears- out of view
The heaviness in my chest-
Making me human-again
I know life - is never fair
We don't get- to choose
But- I will never understand
Why- I have to be so strong
It is- expected
While my world- keeps closing in
I will never get to hold you-
Or feel your heartbeat
Nor-will I see you smile at me
I will often- wonder
How fast - you would have grown
What color- your hair would have been
If you- had not been called home
All of my thoughts-
Will forever remain unknown.
They put butterflies- upon my door
A symbol of compassion-
For the tragedy
We've had to endure.
Your eyes- will remain colorless
Your sudden passing- A mystery.
And I will see you-
In a bright star
Now the guardian-
Who will watch over me-
Keeping safe the ones -
Who grieve
With your spirit-
And tiny angel wings...
